  Curious on if YOU would do this....

  a little back ground.

  my husband and i have 4 kids all together.

  my 8 yr old lives with her jw dad, since i couldn't get her when i left the org.

  I think it's very generous of you and your husband to consider helping this couple out like that...BUT....I cannot imagine giving up all legal and moral rights and responsibilities to this child, yet still have to live next door and see that little one on a regular basis. Especially if it turned out being the little boy that your husband never had.

  It would wrench my heart out to be in that situation. Maybe if they lived far away, it might be a different story, but I can't imagine that it would be an easy thing to do in the same neighbourhood. It's easy to be practical and think that you could handle it now, but you never know what havoc your emotions might wreak afterwards.

  I don't think I would be able to handle something like that...it would only cause alot of unforeseen problems down the road.

  My Mini Van was stolen last night!! (long)

  my son takes my van to school everyday.

  so yesterday, after school, he decides to leave the van there, ride with his buddy to work, and pick it up later!

  he comes home about 8:00 pm wild!

  Just because your son has gotten himself into trouble in the past, I cannot possibly see how that can justify the school faculty treating him, or you like this.

  I would pursue it-no questions asked. How DARE they think they can get away with that??????????????

  What more can they possibly take from her?

  some of you may remember my mom was diagnosed with a rare disease that shrinks the brain.

  (corticobasildegeneration) how i remember that is beyond me!

  anyway, since she was diagnosed, they started out by taking her licence away about 3 years ago.

  I don't think there is anything harsh or terrible about not wanting someone you love dearly to suffer and linger on for months and months. Once they no longer know who you are anymore and if they are in alot of pain, it would only be merciful for the pain to end for them as soon as possible.

  There is no quality of life left for them at that point and it is so hard for those who are left to take care of them to watch them struggle. I recall feeling relief when my husbands parents finally passed away-I felt really guilty for feeling that way, but I was just so glad that they were in a better place.

  I say hang in there and stick to your guns-if a drink every day won't physically harm her or mix badly with her medication, and the home she is in will allow you to "sneak" it into her, then just keep doing what you are doing.

  It's tough to see a parent, or anyone you love, who is lingering in sickness. My dad passed away at the age of 56, but died suddenly and quickly of a heart attack. It was hard not to be able to have the chance say goodbye to him, but I have since then seen both of my husbands parents pass away from cancer. It is so heartbreaking to see a disease slowly disable someone who was once such a vibrant human being. Words can't even describe the pain. In retrospect, I would rather have them go quickly like my dad did-I will always remember him as he was the last time I saw him-full of life.

  You have alot of very good friends on this board to lean on when times are tough...keep up the good work you are doing for your Mom.

  I don't like my name-and only because 95% of the people I meet for the first time don't pronouce it properly. After so many years, I can't be bothered correcting them anymore.

  It's Petra(pronounced Pee-Tra).....but everyone says Pet(as in Pet Shop)-Ra........the good thing, though, is that my parents never "blessed" me with a middle name!!

  You've tried to quit smoking, but you can't. Why not?

  today at 5pm it will be two weeks since i last smoked.

  i'm using the nicotine gum again, and it seems to be doing a good job.

  i got close to bumming one last night, but i grabbed a gum instead.

  I agree Finally Free-I think it's like any addiction(alcoholism, etc.)-it's not something you ever get over, it's a battle you will always fight.

  I remember my dad used to be a heavy smoker, but when he joined the JW's he quit cold turkey. As a teenager though, I recall we would be walking by somebody who would be smoking a cigarette, and my dad would just take a big whiff.

  I questioned him, and he said that he just loved the smell of it, even though he would no longer have one. He said the craving never went away 100%....

  Life Is Grand

  I quit at the beginning of 2005 using Zyban. I couldn't believe how easy it was(after trying numerous times over the past 20 years and never lasting longer than a few stressful days)....but by the end of 2005, because my hubby and all of our friends still smoked, I started having the odd one on the weekend when we would have a few beers. My "excuse" was, I only have a few when I'm drinking....which lasted for awhile.

  Then, slowly, it has progressed to having one before bed during the week as well(to wind down from the day), to having a couple in the morning with my coffee, and to having a couple at lunch.

  Basically, other than smoking in my car(which is new and I refuse to stink it up), and taking smoke breaks at work....I'm right back at it again.

  I keep telling myself that when my husband is finally ready to quit, I will do the Zyban thing again and kick the habit once and for all. It's tough, really tough.

  You hang in there and keep it up!!! You're doing great.

  An anniversary of sorts today

  i didn't realise it, but trev just told me that today is one year to the date since i first visited him at his home to do some research on the internet about the wts.

  i hadn't been going to all the meetings for a while at that time, and the month before i came here i hadn't been at all, but was unsure, despite my doubts, whether i wanted to leave the jws then or not.

  i read on quotes, freeminds and this site, and trev printed some stuff for me to read later.

  Some Unfortunate News due to the Collision

  i was at the doctor today for over 6-hours to be tested on the issues resulting from the collision.

  it seems that there are some serious effects that have emerged, which is not uncommon to happen within a short time after a serious collision.

  i will describe them later on, as i am waiting for more test results to arrive.

  I have to agree with the general consensus that being in the hospital might be alot safer for you in case anything takes a turn for the worse-some of these issues sound like they could be very serious....please take care of yourself.
